Every year on March 8th, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).

This globally recognised day honours the achievements of women, while also highlighting the ongoing struggle for gender equality in the workplace and other aspects of life.

International Women’s Day is more than just a date on the calendar. It symbolises a collective commitment to promoting gender equality and advancing the rights of women worldwide.

Originating from the suffrage movements of the early 20th century, IWD has evolved into a platform for advocacy, awareness, and action on issues ranging from gender-based violence, to economic empowerment.

The theme for International Women’s Day this year is “Inspire Inclusion”, to help inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion to forge a better world.

Women in Tech: Driving Innovation

The technology industry has traditionally been male dominated, with women facing numerous barriers to entry and advancement.

For example, back in 2017, 95% of leadership positions in the tech sector were held by men.

However, in recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of gender diversity in tech and a concerted effort to bridge the gender gap.

Women in tech play a crucial role in driving innovation, shaping the future of technology, and addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the digital age.

From software engineering to data science, women are making significant contributions to every aspect of the tech sector, bringing fresh perspectives and insights to the table.

Technical IT roles have a major under representation of female talent, but we have seen major success stories from our partnerships that are leading the positive change to make this type of role more accessible.

Creating an environment that's supportive of empowerment and development of female talent in the core tech IT arena has long been a focus for us as an organisation.

Our teams and partners deliver a truly candidate-focused experience to ensure that those joining the programme leave equipped for success with a career in Tech.

Challenges & Opportunities

Despite the progress made in recent years, women in tech still face significant challenges, including gender bias, unequal opportunities for advancement, and a lack of representation in leadership roles.

Addressing these challenges requires a collective effort from industry leaders, policymakers, and advocacy organisations to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for women in tech.

At the same time, there are also numerous opportunities to promote gender diversity and empower women in the tech sector.

At The B2W Group, we offer a range of inclusive training programmes to kickstart a career in digital and tech, with more and more women enrolling on a monthly basis.

In addition, our IT and tech training provider, Just IT, recently launched their very first female-focused IT skills bootcamp. The B2W Group has a fresh approach to transforming businesses by up-skilling their current staff or bringing an apprentice into the business to add a dynamic and dedicated individual to the team. All of our courses are available through various streams of government funding so are a cost-effective way to provide high-quality training within the workplace.
