Building Futures: Reeves' Story

Our Building Futures programme provides employability support for those aged 19 – 24 in South Yorkshire, along with key digital qualifications.

Each learner receives individualised, tailored support to help them achieve their goal and move closer to their dream job. Working with their own mentor and keyworker, they have access to tailored packages of support to help build their future.

One learner who recently completed the programme was Reeves Houlder.

About Reeves

Reeves arrived on our Building Futures programme with a lack of confidence in himself, as well as struggling with his overall daily routine.

He had an interest in learning more about website design and pursuing a career in digital, so took the opportunity to enrol onto our fully funded employment support programme in South Yorkshire.

"I joined the Building Futures programme as I wanted to learn new skills to help benefit me in working roles going forward. I went into the course not fully knowing what I wanted to do, but came out with a clear mindset for progression."

Improving Key IT Skills

Throughout the course, Reeves enjoyed learning about the varying elements of digital and improving on his existing IT skills, while learning new elements such as key cyber security principles in the process.

"I really enjoyed learning about cyber security and website design in particular, as it helped develop my IT skills. I know I can use these going forward when advancing into a new career, which is what I'm currently looking to do."

Change In Mentality

Reeves worked with his dedicated keyworker and tutor throughout the programme to help develop key communication and employability skills, which was helped by the virtual classroom environment where each participant on the programme is encouraged to contribute to group discussions.

He also mentioned how the Building Futures programme also helped him develop a structured routine to his day and provided him with a more positive outlook in his search for a new job.

"I think my mentality has changed for the better, and my ability to stick to a routine has improved. I also think I now have a better and more positive outlook on things too."
