Cybersecurity & IT Skills: Learner Feedback - Sheldon

One learner who recently completed the Level 3 section of our Networking, Cybersecurity & IT Skills pathway is Sheldon from Ipswich.

In this short blog, Sheldon shares details about his experience with us and his advice for anybody thinking of enrolling on this particular pathway.

Sheldon's Story

Our Networking, Cybersecurity & IT Skills pathway is designed to help learners gain key skills and knowledge in various areas of IT, which is something that appealed to Sheldon as someone who was looking to change the direction of his career.

"I enrolled on this programme to get a better understanding of networking and cyber security and hopefully change my career to a position in IT, as everyone knows that's the future!

"During the Level 3 course, I completed five modules consisting of project management, threats and vulnerabilities, data communications, access control and network management."

Positive Experience

Sheldon spoke about the positive impact that his tutor had throughout the course and how he felt supported to complete each unit. He also mentioned how he’d recommend this learning pathway to his friends.

"I enjoyed the course and doing the various practical assignments. My tutor (Mohammad) was brilliant too, and was a great support in helping me to complete the course.

"I would highly recommend the course to friends so they can also gain experience and knowledge of networking and cybersecurity, as I feel this is a subject everyone should know about to help prevent cyber crime."

Advice For Others

Sheldon also offered some words of advice for anyone thinking of enrolling onto the Rise 2 Digital programme and what they can expect on the course.

"I came into this course with no experience, GCSEs or other qualifications to challenge myself in learning something new and hopefully to change my career from construction to IT.

"I felt I learned so much and enjoyed this course and now feel like I have a good chance of finding a job in cybersecurity or networking.

"So if you're like me and have no qualifications like myself, you should still join it. You'll surprise yourself as you'll learn so much.

"Give it your all, don't be afraid to ask questions and study hard as it can be intense at times."

After new skills and industry recognised qualifications to add to his CV, Sheldon now plans to find a new role in the IT sector
