Jacob Porter
Jacob is currently completing the Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with The B2W Group. Working as a Digital Marketing Apprentice, Jacob supports the department through planning projects that will help us to increase brand awareness and reach our target audience.
Prior to joining the marketing team at The B2W Group, Jacob worked with Radiotronics where he was responsible for a variety of tasks. This included website management, content creation, video editing and search engine optimisation (SEO).
We caught up with Jacob to find out about his experience with the apprenticeship route.
What made you want to go into an apprenticeship?
Before going into digital marketing, I worked in a warehouse environment. When I wanted to change careers, I found that it was hard to get a digital marketing role without any qualifications. An apprenticeship would allow me to gain a qualification and build my portfolio.
I also enjoyed graphic design prior to my apprenticeship and wanted to pursue a career that involved this.
Before going into the apprenticeship, what did you know about digital marketing?
As I was interested in graphic design, I already had skills in softwares such as Photoshop, PremierPro and InDesign. Other than that, I went into the apprenticeship ready to learn new marketing knowledge.
What key knowledge/skills have you learned?
Having already been in the apprenticeship for over a year, I have attended training sessions with The B2W Group to learn about business principles, marketing principles and coding. During this time, my marketing knowledge has risen to the point where I can create and work hard to fulfill any marketing plan. I am also a lot more knowledgeable in SEO, and how to use social media to reach a target audience.
Since starting with The B2W Group, what responsibilities have you had?
When I joined I was immediately tasked with getting more traction for our courses through social media and posting in Facebook groups. I have been posting in different locations to advertise our warehousing and construction courses to help those who are looking to get back into employment.
I am currently tasked with the responsibility for the company Youtube. This is an area that hasn’t been focused on as much so the marketing team wants to build it up through refreshed content. I will be filming and editing testimonial videos and also working on employer-focused content to promote the business. I will be producing this content using Premiere Pro and After Effects.
What are you looking forward to in the future?
I would like to continue working with The B2W Group after my apprenticeship. Everyone at The B2W Group is friendly and I want to continue to support the marketing team.
Long time, I would like to become a successful marketer, specialising in design and videography as this is what I enjoy most.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others?
Yes I would recommend this route. With a profession such as marketing, it can be hard to find a job without any prior qualifications. An apprenticeship provides you with a qualification and real work experience so that you are able to stand out to employers and prove your competence.
