2023 has started and digital technologies continue to become an integral part of all industries, as covered in our previous White Paper – 2023: The Year of the Digital Upskill | Skills for Growth in Greater Manchester | The B2W Group
The interconnectivity of digital media and technologies also present ample opportunities for a change of employment scenery. For example, a digital administrator position could feasibly lead to a digital marketing role, without the need for a steep learning curve. As these new toolkits fall into the “transferable skills” category, the future is undoubtedly digital.
These opportunities can present themselves on a regular basis if you are lucky enough. Plus, we are living in a world of uncertainty and having a core set of skills that can bend and transfer across multiple careers is a much safer bet than being an expert in something very niche.
The salary range for any digital job will vary due to the large spectrum of roles that fall under the “digital” banner. One insight that could help is to look at the average salary for digital marketing roles, as generally speaking the skills that can be applied in a digital marketing position cover anything relating to digital skills, and more. Given the repeated investments that the government are making into digital technologies, such as the Digital Skills for Growth initiative, any one of these roles will be a safe bet for a long term career. Below we have a quick rundown of some digital pathways – According to Glassdoor:
Cyber Security: £43,133
Cyber security is on the high end of the scale in terms of pay. This is due to the responsibility which comes with the role, as you will be an important aspect of maintaining the security of data. This could be important data and reports from within your workplace or ensuring customer data is protected.
Software Technician: £43,020
Another salary that is on the higher end, Software Technicians have a more all-encompassing role, similar in function to a System Administrator, Software Technicians would be involved in maintaining internal systems within a workplace. This could vary from simple things like installing programmes for employees, to developing and implementing systems from scratch.
Coder: £28,552
Working in Coding can be as much of a spectrum as digital technologies itself. Generally speaking though, you will be involved in either creating or maintaining all the moving parts that are behind the scenes. This could vary from webpage design to developing an advanced user interface for in-house systems.
IT Technician: £25,694
Though the salary isn’t as competitive as the other pathways an IT Technician role has a low barrier to entry compared to the other roles. You can apply for roles with as little as a Level 2 Certificate and a genuine interest in the field. The role would be around maintaining and helping colleagues with setting up and the use of various devices.
All in all, digital skills are worth investing time into even if you don’t want to specialise in a digital field, as in time digital technologies will become more integrated into every role. So what better time that now to invest some time into digital skills, with the increased attention brough to digital by government initiatives and the ever-advancing integration of technologies within all job roles?
