As part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Works4U is delivering employment support for local residents in the North East.

In partnership with the North East Combined Authority, our programme focuses on supporting economically inactive residents of the area to improve and enhance their confidence and skills, with a view to progressing them towards the labour market.

Each participant on our programme is allocated their own Key Support Mentor in order to guide, coach and enable them to make positive life choices, as well as upskill themselves with the knowledge that we will continue to support them long after the programme has finished.

One participant who recently completed the programme is Danuta from Newcastle.

Danuta's story

Danuta arrived on our Works4U programme in the North East after a significant period of unemployment, with an overall lack of confidence and knowledge of how to apply for jobs online and how to best present herself in interview situations.

With the help of our team, we were able to help Danuta identify her barriers to employment and put a plan in place to help her overcome these.

Works4U supported me with applying for jobs online, with the knowledge of how to best prepare for interviews. They gave me the opportunity to choose the right position for my future work, and also supported me with monthly transport tickets and other expenses.

"Support on many different levels"

Danuta revealed the aspects of the programme that she most enjoyed, and how the sessions she attended with her learning support advisors quickly helped her to improve her skillset when using a PC to apply for jobs online, as well as her overall confidence.

The thing I enjoyed the most was that I received support with applying for jobs online and got lessons on how to prepare for interviews. The main thing I've learnt on the Works4U programme was the knowledge that I'm not alone and I have support on many different levels. I don't have to worry even I am not the best with my computer skills.

"The biggest happiness"

Not only did Danuta successfully complete our Works4U programme, improving her confidence and overall skillset, but she also managed to secure a new job role working in her chosen sector.

She told us about her new job role and described the main things she benefited from by enrolling on our Works4U programme in the North East

The biggest happiness was that I was able to get a new job shortly after completing the programme, and I feel I am now more confident to start full time employment.

I am ready to improve my knowledge about retail and I am happy that I get to work with customers to receive the best quality products, as I love to work with people in a busy environment.

The course gave me more confidence, and acknowledge that I can achieve my future goals at work. I can also go on to improve my skills in IT and customer service during further courses and training opportunities.

Congratulations again, Danuta! We wish you all the very best in your new role!
