Works4U is an employment support programme designed to provide residents in the West Midlands with opportunities to upskill, overcome personal challenges, move into work, and gain qualifications.

The programme provides wrap-around support to help you find the right opportunity, while breaking down any barriers that could be holding you back from finding work.

One participant who recently completed the programme is Roxana from Coventry.

Roxana's Story

Roxana arrived on our Works4U programme in Coventry with a lack of confidence in finding full-time employment in the local area and wasn’t really sure how to get started. As a single parent with little support around her, she also struggled to maintain positivity when searching for jobs.

With the support of both her tutor and keyworker, we were able to identify the barriers she had to finding employment and work with Roxana to address these.

"I am grateful for the support provided in helping me achieve my goals. I have learned how to develop my confidence, maintain a positive attitude, and develop greater self-trust.

"Learning about professional CV development also enhanced my opportunities, and I acquired valuable skills in interview preparation, job searching and teamwork."

Support Received From Keyworker

Roxana also spoke in great detail about the wrap-round support she received from her keyworker on the programme, and described the positive impact this had on her in terms of her mindset and putting a plan in place to help her find employment.

"I enjoyed the wrap-around sessions with my keyworker (Cristian) as he navigated me through the local job market, and provided individualised support to break down my barriers as a single mother in finding employment after being out of work for a year.

"His positive attitude and professionalism inspired me to improve my lifestyle by securing sustainable employment.

"He focused on my needs and aspirations and was able to advise me what my next steps should be to find a job."

Key Lessons From Tutor

Not only did Roxana receive wrap-around support from her keyworker, but her tutor also delivered multiple lessons designed to teach her some key employability skills.

"Throughout the lessons with my tutor, I felt part of a team and developed my employability skills. I enjoyed how interactive and engaging the sessions were.

"The tutor that delivered the lessons was friendly and presented interactive lessons which were valuable in becoming more independent. They were engaging and we were allowed to have lots of input, while better understanding different concepts such as health and safety at work, teamwork and conflict resolution.

"I also learnt the importance of a well-drafted CV and how to present myself well at interviews."

Increased Confidence & New Job Secured

The support from both her keyworker and tutor on the Works4U programme was truly life-changing for Roxana, who told us in her own words how this led to her securing a new full-time role in her local area.

"By taking part in the lessons delivered at Work4U, I now have more confidence in my skills and a better understanding of the concepts of teamwork and how to solve conflicts in the workplace. I am also now much more independent in researching and applying for jobs and presenting myself well.

"Ultimately, these efforts resulted in securing two interviews and then sustainable employment in a sector where I feel confident.

"With assistance from my keyworker, I was able to discover the local job market in my area and I secured employment within a 20-minute walking distance from my house.

"Moving forward, my keyworker has advised me to complete a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Leadership, which I am very keen to do."

Congratulations Roxana! We wish you all the very best in your new role!
