Works4U is our new employment support programme for both unemployed and employed residents in Birmingham and the West Midlands, designed to provide opportunities for people to upskill, overcome personal challenges, move in to work and gain qualifications.

In this short blog, our team provide answers to the most common questions they’re asked about Works4U and explain what support is available for our participants.

What is Works4U?

Works4U has been designed to provide individualised wrap-around support to help residents in Birmingham and the West Midlands find the right opportunity for them, while breaking down any barriers that could be holding them back from finding work.

As part of this employment support, learners will have the opportunity to gain a Level 1 Essential Digital Skills qualification to boost their CV, as well as providing them with the key employability skills and support required to help them find sustainable employment.

Where is Works4U based?

Works4U is based in four locations across the West Midlands, in Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

We have local teams present in each office, with staff members who also local residents themselves, with extensive experience of each location – and both industry and lived experiences in employability support.

Each team places a significant focus on the social purpose of the programme – and how can we make the most direct and sustainable impact to local residents, communities, organisations and environments.

Who is eligible for the programme?

  • Learners need to be 19 years of age or above
  • Resident within WMCA postcode region
  • No requirement to be in receipt of benefits
  • If employed – earnings should be under £30,000 per year
  • Proof of ID (Photo), address and National Insurance Number will be required

What support is available?

Learners will receive up to 72 hours of wrap-around support provided by a dedicated keyworker, who will work with them to provide all the help and assistance they need.

We recognise that everyone’s journey and needs are unique, and we tailor the support required on an individual basis; the aim is to help people find secure and sustainable work as soon as they are ready.

This wrap-around support can be delivered on a one-to-one or group basis, depending on the nature of the support required. All sessions will be facilitated by the keyworker or Tutor, but may utilise external specialists if suitable.

Initial interventions are identified as part of the on-boarding process and action plans are then put in place from this.

Each learner action plan will be updated with every intervention attended to show engagement and track progress.
