As National Pride Month came to an end recently, the B2W Group Restart team in Manchester was keen to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ employees by raising awareness of the different communities associated with Pride.

Staff were given the option of dressing as their favourite celebrity LGBTQIA+ icon, as well as taking part in other activities with a buffet served in the afternoon.

The team also put together a short presentation on all things Pride, educating the wider team on Disability Pride, Black Pride and other cultural Prides. Staff were also asked to take part in “What are you proud of?” as part of a team-building exercise.

Rachel Willoughby, Associate Director of Employment Support, expressed her own pride in the afternoon’s activities and how B2W helped to showcase inclusivity for all.

She said;

“The national average for LGBTQIA+ employees in the workplace is less than 5%. We know that the team behind our Restart Scheme in Manchester has a much higher representation of 18%, so we wanted to highlight and celebrate this by hosting an afternoon of fun activities for our team.

“I think we’ve come a long way in such a short space of time in the UK with inclusivity and celebrating diversity in the workplace, but we know there’s some way to go in some sectors. Nobody should be discriminated against at work for their sexual orientation or how they identify their gender.

“Hosting days like today will hopefully help other organisations celebrate the differences in their own employees, to show that they are welcomed and accepted, regardless of their identity.”

Our Restart Scheme is a government initiative providing up to 12 months of enhanced support to help local unemployed people find a job in their area. It is designed to break down any employment barriers that could be holding them back from finding work.
