Rishi Sunak announces plans to support young people back into work.

In a new incentive to support employers and help young people into jobs, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a “brand new bonus” for employers if they hire an apprentice over the next six months.

Additionally, he pledged £101 million to allow 18-19 year olds in England to study “targeted high value” Level 2 and 3 courses if they face unemployment.

This comes as the Chancellor wants to support those who are ‘hardest hit by this crisis’ which he has stated as ‘younger people’. He revealed that ‘under 25’s are 2.5x likely to work in a sector that has been closed’.

Apprenticeships

Speaking on apprenticeships, Rishi Sunak stated that ‘We know apprenticeships work… 91 percent of apprentices stay in work or do further training afterwards.’

In the next 6 months, the Government will pay businesses to hire young apprentices with a new payment of £2000 per apprentice. They will also introduce a brand new bonus for business to hire apprentices aged 25 and over with a payment of £1500.

Traineeships

Another valuable scheme the Government will focus on is traineeships. Employers will receive a bonus of £1000 for taking on new trainees and in turn hoping to triple the number of traineeship placements in the UK.

Careers Advisors

The Government will also focus on career advisors to support a quarter of a million more individuals into work.
