Step into work with the NHS in Wolverhampton

In a powerful move to support local communities and address NHS staffing needs, we recently partnered with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust to deliver the Step into Work with the NHS programme in the West Midlands.

This initiative gave local unemployed residents a direct route into meaningful employment within the NHS — an opportunity that not only provided stability and purpose, but also helped reinforce the healthcare system with passionate, values-driven individuals.

Designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in non-clinical NHS roles, the programme offered a blend of training, career guidance, and the opportunity to gain real work experience within the healthcare system.

For many participants, it marked a fresh start and a chance to make a lasting difference in their communities.

Making a positive impact

The focus on ethos and values was at the heart of the programme’s success. By selecting candidates who not only wanted to work, but were passionate about making a positive impact, the initiative ensured that new recruits aligned with the core principles of the NHS — compassion, respect, and dedication.

Participants of the programme benefited from tailored employability support provided by Back2Work Complete Training, and sector-specific training that prepared them for roles such as administration, support services, and patient-facing customer care positions.

For many, it was more than just a job — it was a first step toward a long-term career.

At the end of the programme, each participant was invited to share their story among their peers, family and friends in a celebration event held at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

We went along to capture some moments from the day, as well as catch up with Sallie Johnson of NHS Futures and some of the participants of ‘Step into work with the NHS’ to hear first-hand how the programme impacted their lives and their career aspirations.
