In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the need to gain key digital skills has never been more crucial.
As part of our Digital Bytesize course, our Creative Skills pathway is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge and skills you need to kickstart a new digital career, with a focus on breaking into the creative industries through gaming, website design and programming.
On completion of the course, all learners receive a bundle of three qualifications, with a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for the Creative Industries added to two Level 2 Awards, in Digital & IT Skills and Website Design & Development.
One learner who recently completed this particular pathway is Rose from Gloucester, who shares her journey and insights about her experience in this short blog.
Pursuing your interests
After realising that she had a passion for all things related to gaming, Rose decided to pursue her interest in this field by seeking to gain some training and relevant qualifications, with a view to hopefully pursuing a career in the creative industries.
She chose to enrol on our Digital Bytesize course for this reason, and opted for the Creative Skills pathway to gain relevant and industry accredited qualifications in the process.
I chose this course as I had a specific interest in games development, but I lacked any formal qualifications in IT since my GCSEs over a decade ago.
I definitely enjoyed the games development aspect the most! I was especially amazed that one could produce a fully functioning game in such a short timeframe and I found the development pathway from planning to implementation to testing completely fascinating.
Relevant tasks and new skills
As part of the course, Rose and her fellow learners were introduced to new skills in website design, games development and programming. Rose revealed exactly what projects and tasks she completed, as well as extra knowledge on the possible roles she could pursue.
I independently developed a platformer game, I developed a health and wellbeing website as part of a team, I learned the foundations of programming and I learned strategies for finding and securing a job in the Creative Industries.
Advice for others
Rose also offered some words of advice for anyone else thinking of joining the Digital Bytesize course, as well as giving some insight into the other skills you’ll be supported to develop and improve upon.
I would say, take the plunge! This short course will open your eyes to the opportunities available in the creative industries, such as games development and web design, and all the while you will be honing your soft skills too.
Without really realising it, this course has enhanced my communication, collaboration and problem solving skills.
Next steps
Not only did Rose successfully complete the course, but she also gained a bundle of three accredited qualifications. She received a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for the Creative Industries, as well as Level 2 Awards in both Digital & IT Skills and Website Design & Development.
She concluded his feedback by letting us know her plans for the future and her next steps.
I am still at the stage where I would want to try out a variety of roles before narrowing down which part of the Creative Industries I would want to start a career in, but I feel that this course has effectively prepared me to return to work, and has primed me to apply for roles in the Creative Industries, such as games development and digital marketing.
From all of us at B2W, we wish Rose all the very best in his future IT career!
