Building Futures Testimonial - Alex

Our Building Futures programme provides digital qualifications and employability support for those aged 19 – 24 in the South Yorkshire region.

These qualifications help prepare our learners for the world of work, while giving them an insight into some of the most exciting and innovative career paths available, such as games design and computer programming.

Each learner also receives individualised, tailored support to help them achieve their goal and move closer to their dream job. Working with their own mentor, they have access to tailored packages of support to help build their future.

One learner who recently completed the programme is Alex from Barnsley.

Alex's Story

Alex joined our Building Futures programme to learn new digital skills and regain some confidence after a period of unemployment.

They also admitted that they weren’t sure where their career was heading and decided to join the programme to broaden their horizons.

"Prior to joining the course, I was struggling for over a year to find employment after losing my job and going through a very close loss soon after.

"I wanted to occupy myself, widen my experiences and qualifications, and try to get a better idea of what I wanted to do long term.

“My career prospects are much wider now, considering the value of the courses offered and computer literacy being so important in this day and age."

Increased Confidence & Securing Empoyment

Alex revealed that they now have a stronger understanding of digital, as well as an increase in confidence and has even made some friends during their time on the course.

And to top it off, Alex has now secured employment after successfully completing the Building Futures programme.

"I‘ve managed to improve my confidence throughout the course as well as make a few friends with similar interests and experiences.

"I‘m currently in the process of starting a new job as a Customer Experience Agent, and due to start next month.

"Personally, I feel the programme is very valuable and useful to engage with, the tutors are extremely helpful and engaged and there is always support available."
