IWD2019

March 8th marks International Women’s Day 2019. This year’s theme is ‘Balance for Better’, which calls for a speed-up on gender balance in key areas such as business, politics, media coverage and wealth.

International Women’s Day began after a socialist party of America organised a Women’s Day on February 28th, 1909 in New York. In 1910, it was suggested a Women’s Day be held annually to promote the movement for women’s right. It is now celebrated internationally each year on March 8th.

Only 19% of SME Employers were majority-led by women

The BBC reported in September 2018 that ‘only 19% of SME employers were majority-led by women – defined as controlled by a single woman or having a management team of which a majority were women’. It was also reported that ‘women only make up 27% of full-time chief executives and senior officials’. (source)

The B2W Group Senior Management Team comprises of 8 people, 5 of whom are female. This makes up for 62.5% of our SMT. Today we want to celebrate these women, alongside the other women in our business, for all their hard work. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thank you for your leadership, support and your contribution to the business.

“No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of its citizens.” – Michelle Obama, Former First Lady of the United States
