Every great leader has great qualities. From confidence to open-mindedness, these qualities help you succeed.

Great Confidence

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence” – Hellen Keller

Confidence in yourself is one of the most important qualities of any leader. If you are not confident, you cannot expect your team or employees to be confident in you either. Displaying your confidence in everyday tasks and meetings can build trust and determination from your team members.

Passion

“Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It is about impact, influence and inspiration. Impact involves getting results, influence is about spreading the passion you have for your work, and you have to inspire team-mates and customers.” – Robin S.Sharma

Without passion, you will not have near the same amount of love for your job or company. With passion, you will have an effortless want to succeed. If you do not have passion as a leader, you cannot expect those you lead to have passion either.

Being open-minded

“I’m someone who is open-minded to new experiences because they teach you new things.” – Marilyn Manson

Being open-minded is important in various situations. You may think that being a great leader means that you are going to set a goal and stick to it. That is not always the best approach. Along your journey, you will discover that some things do not work, or that another approach would be faster or easier. Being a great leader means that you can adapt to new ideas and approaches and listen to what your team members have to say.

Additionally, it is important to have an open approach when it comes to the views of others. If you disagree with someone, do not just decide that their view or idea is wrong.  For example, if someone believes a different approach is better, do not just turn them away. Give them a chance to explain and prove that their approach could work. Try out new ideas.

Loyalty

“Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence” – Colin Powell

If you want to earn trust and respect from your team, you must be loyal. It is important that you stick to the promises you make. If you do not – it could taint your future relationship and your team will not have faith in what you say or may not want to work as part of your team. Almost half (45 per cent) of employees considering quitting named bad management or leadership as the biggest factor influencing their choice.
