The new year brings with it an opportunity to focus on changing your life in one way or another. The tradition of setting a new year resolution allows you to focus on improving an aspect in your life that you want to focus on.

A common New Year resolution is to learn new skills or further progress within your career.

The B2W Group provides fully-funded courses that focus on progression within the workplace. These come at no cost to learners and employers and allow development into a topic of your choice. Upon completion of these courses, you will be able to take on further responsibilities and improve your work ethic. You’ll also receive a recognised qualification to add to your CV.

The benefits of learning new skills

Learning new skills is essential if you want to progress in life and your career. Staying up to date and enhancing your knowledge will open up many doors. Here are some of the many reasons you should be continuously learning.

It keeps your mind healthy

Learning new skills will keep your mind engaged and provide you with new experiences. It will enable you to deal with more situations within your life and career and prepare you for any issues you may face.

It will also keep you in the loop if there are any new changes in things such as technology.

“New brain cell growth can happen even late into adulthood, the process of learning and acquiring new information and experiences, like through structured classes, can stimulate that process.” (source)

Increases your work ethic

Enhancing your knowledge will improve your capability at work, increasing your work ethic. You will be more determined to do better within your role and improve your work performance.

Improve your CV and position at work

Not only does completing a course add a recognised qualification to your CV, but it also makes a point to your employer – you’re eager to progress.

This proactive approach to your career will make you stand out from the crowd of employees who only engage in the mandatory training a company provides.

By demonstrating to your manager your willingness to learn new skills, you’ll earn recognition as a forward-thinking and valued member of the team. Which is bound to come in handy during performance and salary reviews.

It promotes open-mindedness

Learning about a topic will provide you with different views and opinions, as well as methods and techniques. One of the worst things a person can be is stubborn and unwilling to learn.

Achieving an open mind will allow you to grow as a person and become a more likeable and approachable person. You will have a better understanding of the way others think and an understanding of the advantages and disadvantages involved in the topics you are learning about.

It can benefit others around you

Not only will learning new skills benefit you as an individual, it will also positively impact those around you. You will be able to share your new knowledge as well as understand how others around you work. You can adapt to their techniques, which is especially useful if you are in a management role.
