A survey, conducted by Harris Poll, revealed that a third of employees who quit their jobs did so because they didn’t learn new skills or better performance. A lack of career growth is one of the biggest reasons workers leave, second only to low pay.

Development is important to employees, as it shows the company is willing to invest in their future. Employees also want to expand on their knowledge to open up new options, as well as ensure that they are constantly learning new things. No one wants to feel like they’re hitting a dead end in their career.

Too busy to learn new skills?

One of the biggest challenges employers and employees face when it comes to upskilling is the lack of time. Many people have a busy schedule and it’s hard to dedicate time to learning, especially if you’re thinking about going to college or university alongside your job.

This can cause an issue, as people can feel stuck in there career path and start thinking about finding a new job. Marc Cenedella, founder and CEO of career resource The Ladders, also told Business Insider’s Rachel Gillett to quit if you haven’t picked up a new skill, viewpoint, or way of doing things in six months.
