Success doesn’t always come from the traditional route of going to college and/or university and can come from many different education routes. You may think an apprenticeship can’t lead to greater things in life but these celebs will prove you wrong!

Here is a number of successful famous people that have taken part in an apprenticeship!

 

Jamie Oliver

The well-known chef Jamie Oliver acquired a number of apprenticeships at eateries all around London after receiving two GCSEs at school and an NVQ in home economics.

The apprenticeships taught him many of the skills he needed to become a successful chef and he has since made many accomplishments such as his own TV shows and food range.

 

Alexander McQueen

Famous People who did fashion apprenticeships

McQueen, a famous fashion designer in the UK, acquired an apprenticeship by knocking on doors on Savile Row as a teenager. Later in life, he worked as chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001 and founded his own Alexander McQueen label in 1992.

 

David Beckham

David Beckham began his football career by doing an apprenticeship in the football Youth Training Scheme before his global sporting fame.

Before retiring, he played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and the England national team.

Now, Beckham has an estimated net worth of £339million.

 

Sir Ian McKellan

One of the most popular names that comes to mind when you think of famous people who completed an apprenticeship is Sir Ian McKellan, well-known for his roles in X-men and Lord of the Rings.

McKellan completed a three-year apprenticeship at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. This job was the first acting job he received and fuelled his later success in life.

 

John Frieda

Successful British celebrity hairstylist John Frieda began his journey as an Apprentice Hairdresser at his father’s salon after he left school.

Now, he has his name plastered over hair products all across the UK and has styled hair belonging to some of the hottest celebrity stars.

 

Ruth Badger

British businesswoman Ruth Badger is well recognised for being the runner-up on the second series of UK reality TV show The Apprentice.

What you may not know is that she was actually a real-life apprentice. Badger says that she was never great academically. The Business Administration apprenticeship she completed when she was 16 years old put her on track for a successful career.

She now owns her own business, hoping to take on apprentices of her own and give them the same chance at life.

 

Stella McCartney

At the age of 13, Stella McCartney had already designed her own jacket. With a passion for fashion, Stella did a tailoring apprenticeship with Edward Sexton at Savile Row. This opened up more opportunities for her. Two years later she was made Creative Director of Chloe, a French luxury fashion house.

Now, McCartney is an award-winning fashion designer and a household name. She has been proudly appointed OBE for her services to fashion and she has definitely inspired the fashion industry!
